The following rules are important for all modes of play. Following this section, the rules governing each game mode is described in greater detail.
Tracking Time
There are three important units of time for keeping track of events in the game. These are the Round, the Activity, and the Period. A Round is six seconds of time in the game world and is used for tracking time during Combat mode and other time-sensitive encounters. There are 10 Rounds in 1 minute of time in the game world. The Activity is ten minutes of time in the game world. Activities are used for tracking time and events in Exploration mode. A Period is six hours of time in the game world. Periods are used to track time during Journey mode. The four Periods of each day are labeled: Morning, Daytime, Evening, Nighttime.
Round (6 seconds), 10 Rounds per minute.
Activity (10 minutes), 6 Activities per hour.
Period (6 hours), 4 Periods per day.
Managing Resources
Playing World Saga is all about making choices and managing limited resources. A character’s Reserves, Stamina, Focus, and Courage are the primary resources used for dealing with dangerous encounters. During Combat encounters, you’ll have to make strategic choices about when to spend these precious resources to perform Vigorous, Cunning, or Valiant actions because these resource pools are also the first line of defense against Physical, Mental, and Spiritual damage. Outside of combat, players will also have to make careful choice about when to spend their previous Courage to avoid failure and when to simply let disaster shape the narrative. The next few sections detail what happens when a character takes excessive damage to these Reserves.
