Combat Actions

Combat Actions

Many combat actions have the Attack trait, indicating that they include Attack Rolls and Defense Rolls. Some conditions, like Distracted and Exposed, may impose penalties on these rolls.

Attack Rolls – Attack rolls are any roll by the Attacker in any Test to resolve an Action with the Attack trait. These Tests are usually Opposed, Conflict, or Attack tests.

Defense Rolls – Defense rolls are any rolls by the Defender in any Test to resolve an Action with the Attack trait. These are usually Opposed, Conflict, and Attack tests.

Another important action trait is the Attention trait. Many special maneuvers and enhanced combat actions have this trait and cost Attention to use that action. After the Action is declared, the PC must deduct the listed number of points from their current Attention value. A character cannot voluntarily reduce their current Attention below 0 in this way.

DamageActions that resolve with an Attack Test (e.g. Strike, Pummel, Fire, Strike) can deal Stamina Damage. Remember that most successful Attack Rolls during an Attack Test result in at least 1 point of damage (or the minimum damage). Review the rules for Attack Tests in Chapter 1.
